I've always been curious to know why the houses in Amsterdam are super narrow and long, they seem to squeeze into each other. I think the pattern of colors that ranges from brown to black and are carefully outlined by a white that reminds me of the Christmas decoration of gingerbread cookies is beautiful. The dry branches point to an absurdly gray and monotonous sky. This monotony is broken by the heat of the lights at dusk, they vibrate in the water and give life to an Amsterdam that insists on setting a sober and peculiar tone. It's the most beautiful sobriety I've ever seen.

Eu sempre tive curiosidade de saber o porquê as casas em Amsterdam são super estreitas e compridas, parecem espremer-se uma nas outras. Eu acho bonito o padrão de cores que varia do marrom ao preto e são cuidadosamente delineadas por um branco que lembra a decoração de natal dos biscoitos de gengibre. Os galhos secos apontam para um céu absurdamente cinza e monótono. Tal monotonia é quebrada pelo calor das luzes ao anoitecer, elas vibram na água e dão vida a uma Amsterdam que insiste em querer ditar um tom sóbrio e peculiar. É a sobriedade mais bonita que eu já vi.

I created this art in a very tall and narrow dimension, precisely to dialogue with the tall and narrow houses in Amsterdam. The support used was Canson 185 g/m² paper.
During my research, I discovered that the houses were narrow because at that time the tax was charged on the width of the facade, so narrow and tall houses were built. However, there was a problem: how to get the furniture in? For this reason, each house had a hook at the top of its roof, they were used to lift furniture that came in through the window.
To portray this narrow strip of Amsterdam, I walked a lot along its canals (using Google street view) until I found the perfect spot: Prinsengracht (Prince's Canal) almost on the corner of Brouwersgracht (canal of the old breweries).

Criei esta arte em uma dimensão bastante alta e estreita, justamente para dialogar com as casas altas e estreitas de Amsterdam. O suporte utilizado foi papel Canson 185 g/m².
Durante minhas pesquisas, descobri que as casas eram estreitas porque naquela época o imposto era cobrado sobre a largura da fachada, desta forma, faziam-se casas estreitas e altas. No entanto, havia um problema: como entrar com os móveis? Por esse motivo, cada casa possuía um gancho no alto de sua testeira, eram utilizados para içar os móveis que entravam pela janela.
Para retratar esta estreita faixa de Amsterdam, eu andei bastante pelos seus canais (através do Google street view) até encontrar o ponto perfeito: Prinsengracht (Canal do Príncipe) quase esquina com Brouwersgracht (canal das antigas cervejarias).
